F.A.Q.s

1.) I want to use the same images on my website in my printed piece.
2.) Why are my PDF proof colors so
different than what I expected?
3.) When or why would I need to
order a matchprint?
4.) How long is all of this going
to take?
5.) Will you need my fonts?
6.) Why did my professionally
printed piece not print as vividly as my home printed piece?
7.) What programs work best for
color printing?
8.) Is your work "guaranteed?"
|
1.) In one word, Don't. To expand on
that, images on the internet are usually 72 dpi (dots per inch).
They are small to save space and load quickly when you view a
webpage. To print an image 300 dpi is best. 72 dpi does not
include enough information to print clearly. Images will be
fuzzy at best when printed at this resolution. If you want to
use images from your website, ChristMas Printing will need the
original 300 dpi image or photos. There is just no getting
around this one. |
|
2.) When you are looking at your proof
on your monitor, the colors are RGB (even if we have converted
them) because monitors produce color using Red, Green and Blue.
When RGB is converted to CMYK, there are definite changes to
large blocks of color. While you might not notice these
conversions in a photograph, your logo or other line art graphic
will look different. To produce full color printing on our
presses, all colors are converted to CMYK (cyan, magenta, yellow
and black) and are printed one color over another to produce
full color. Some RGB colors cannot be reproduced because of
this. If you need an exact color, consider requesting a spot
color. If you need colors to be as close to your original as
possible, we suggest ordering a Matchprint
(additional charges apply) to verify these color conversions
will be adequate before we print your order. IT IS VERY
IMPORTANT TO CHECK YOUR PROOF CAREFULLY. ONCE SIGNED, YOUR
PROJECT WILL GO TO PRINT AND CHANGES WILL INCUR ADDITIONAL
CHARGES. |
|
3.) A matchprint is a full color copy
made from the actual negatives your file will be printed from.
It is an excellent way to verify color information. When
transferring files from screen to paper, several changes take
place. First, your image is going from backlit RGB to flat CMYK.
Light is reflected to your eyes differently. The CMYK colors are
printed one on top of the other and no light is shining through.
CMYK is a good, but limited color palette. Some colors produced
on screen cannot be exactly reproduced with the four color
process (CMYK). Some changes will occur. If your company
requires a specific color, it would be a good idea to verify the
color with a matchprint. We will be glad to produce one for you
for an additional charge and overnight it to you for your
approval. ChristMas Printing offers matchprints for $65.00 per
12 x 18. For example: If your document is 8 1/2 x 11, Full Color
both sides, you would require one 11 x 17 Flat. (8 1/2 x 11
twice for front and back) If you have further questions about
matchprint or <PDF proofs>, please feel free to call us.

Multi-page booklets and catalogs take a little longer. Of course
this is after we get a final approval of your proof from you.

FL 32709 to your location.
UPS has an
estimator for shipping cost on their website. The weight of your

5.) If you are using a pretty standard
font, such as Times, Helvetica, or other standard system fonts
that came with your computer, probably not. However, if you are
unsure please include a copy of the font when submitting your
file. On a PC, this can be done by going to drive C:\ and
looking under Windows--> Fonts and copying the font onto the
desktop. When you get ready to burn your CD or save to your zip,
just make sure to include this copy of your font. On a Mac, go
to the folder where your fonts are stored (by default to the
system folder) and option-drag the folder to the desktop. If you
still need assistance, please call us. We are always glad to
help. |
|
6.) Printing from a desktop printer will
always produce different results than a full color printing
press. The first reason is that most home printers print using 3
inks (RGB). They also print one line at a time. When printed on
a commercial press, the four colors (CMYK) are laid down one on
top of the other. On occasion the results are what some people
refer to as "duller". You can never judge exactly what a color
on your monitor is going to look like when commercially printed.
Color monitors use the RGB color space. It is physically
impossible for them to be identical because they are two
completely separate processes. RGB is light that goes straight
to your eyes. CMYK is reflected light bouncing off of the object
on which it is printed (the paper). Bright, neon, really vivid
colors will not print in CMYK color space. It just won't happen.
You can come close, but they will be less vivid when printed on
our presses. |

Microsoft Publisher files, however there is an additional

Programs like QuarkXpress and
PageMaker are best for producing a completed project. They keep
your text clean and are easy to convert to CMYK. Photoshop is
great for creating your images. Just make sure you are using
"CMYK" under IMAGE-MODE. You want your images to be at least 300
dpi. When you import your Photoshop image, ChristMas Printing
will need a copy of that original artwork to produce the best
finished piece. We will be glad to use your Publisher (please
note that Publisher files are not CMYK compatible and will incur
additional set up fees) or Word file, however, these files are not
properly CMYK supported and will embed all of your images as
RGB. Your colors will not print exactly like they are on your
screen. Sometimes, these conversions are significantly
different. We will send you a PDF proof of these color changes,
but remember you are looking at these on a monitor that is RGB. |
